The headphone market offers a huge number of options for anyone who is shopping around. In fact, today we shop for headphones: we test them, choose them, analyze them and compare them. Now Bowers & Wilkins has just put out the C5, a pair of high-end in-ear headphones.

These earphones isolate outside noises, filling your ears with music that sounds rich and natural. The Micro Porous Filter technology, exclusive to Bowers & Wilkins, guarantees extremely realistic sound.

The Secure Loop ring around each earphone ensures perfect and stable positioning by surrounding the ear, without giving the feeling of tightness that is common with other low or medium quality in-ear headphones. In terms of design, weight distribution within each earpiece is directed inward. This ensures effective positioning and prevents the earpieces from sliding toward the outside of the ear. Bowers & Wilkins call this design feature Tungsten Balanced.

Bowers & Wilkins manufactures several models of headphones in different price ranges. Regardless of the model, you know you are opting for quality. The C5 from Bowers & Wilkins will be available in August.

Suggested retail price for the C5: $180 US, including a carrying pouch.

Bowers & Wilkins (B & W) has been making the Zeppelin dock for iPhone or iPod for some time now. But recently, significant improvements have been made. Apple’s AirPlay now turns the Zeppelin into the Zeppelin Air, which makes a lot of sense considering the meaning of the word Zeppelin!

This feature allows you to use B & W’s Zeppelin Air dock to listen to music stored in your computer or iPod / iPhone / iPad, via iTunes with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

For lovers of the original shape of the Zeppelin, don’t worry, B & W has left it the same. They did take the opportunity to update some of the technical characteristics of the sound quality. Note that the quality of the base was already exceptional, and we can expect that the new Zeppelin Air will be even more impressive.

The four speakers deliver 25 watts each and the subwoofer is capable of releasing a powerful 50 watts. There is also a digital-analog converter that converts digital information into a warmer analog sound. As for inputs, the Zeppelin Air has 3 input possibilities: USB, an auxiliary and an optical digital. It also has a composite output to send a video signal to a TV, a useful feature for using an iPad / iPod / iPhone to watch videos.

Since the unveiling of Apple’s AirPlay technology, many companies are remodeling their iPhone or iPod compatible devices. It is expected that gradually, AirPlay will become the new standard for audio systems, docking stations and stands for Apple devices.

In the context of miniaturizing electronic components, small miracles can be accomplished. Bowers & Wilkins presents the MM-1. Small powerful speakers that are perfect for a laptop, MP3 player or smart phone. The MM-1 are small hi-fi speakers capable of impressive performance.

The design of the MM-1 is simple: two compact boxes 10 x 10 x 17 cm, relatively heavy (about 2 pounds each), with black and brushed steel finish. The tweeter and subwoofer are both inside. There is a standard 3.5 mm auxiliary input for plugging in an iPod, smart phone, MP3 player, etc. The MM-1 can also has an USB connection for a computer.

Not only does the remote control work with the speakers, it also controls the playlist in the computer if the speakers are connected via USB to the popular iTunes software. In both cases, they need an independent power source and cannot be powered by USB.

For more information about the MM-1, visit the Bowers & Wilkins website. The price tag on these is around $600.

iPod docks are leading the revolution in the world of mini stereo systems. Bringing together high-brow design aesthetics with advanced technology, two models in particular distinguish themselves.

The Zeppelin from B&W will floor you. It’s almost a work of art. (I’m not exaggerating, take a look!). The seductive design makes the Zeppelin a tremendously beautiful decoration piece for your living room. It’s a compact music system that is astonishingly capable of delivering an incredible level of audio performance in any room it’s in. We’ve already cited all the technical details of this marvel (http://fillion.ca/blogue/manufacturiers/bw/bw-et-ipod-du-style-a-revendre/). And though we don’t want to overstate the fact, this really is THE iPod station of the moment. Even the demo doesn’t stay too long on our shelves. It’s a great investment for $650. It’s worth noting, in addition, that the electronics were developed by a Quebec company, Classé Audio, right here in Montreal. How about that!

But the elegance of the Zeppelin might not be as exciting to you as the “high tech” features of the Music Cocoon 4 from Roth Audio. The name speaks for itself! Roth has developed an iPod dock with an integrated tube amplifier. Wow! The design is mind-blowing and the sound quality is equally impressive. It comes with two auxiliary inputs for television and computer. The speakers are purchased separately and I recommend that you pay special attention when choosing them as they shouldn’t consume a lot of power. Take the advice of a professional and head straight for B&W or Focal/JmLab speakers amongst others. This station, in the $700 mark, is geared for music lovers. Your MP3 player might even become the weak link in your ensemble depending on the type of compression used for your digital files. Nonetheless, it remains one of the best options that I can recommend!

So, will it be the Zeppelin, or the Music Cocoon? Either way, hours of aural and visual pleasure await you.

We recently talked about some of the possible alternatives for home theatre audio systems that are ideal for smaller spaces (link to the post). We present to you today THE best solution – I propose the 5.1 Kit B&W CM-1 + CM-C + PV-1, in conjunction with a unit that goes very well with this ensemble, the T775 receiver from NAD. This high-performance compact music and cinema ensemble will address the needs of even the biggest music lovers and connoisseurs of film on the planet. It features some of the best technology out there, as the speakers come from the same lineage as the Nautilus B&W series that floored critics when it first came out at the beginning of 2006. People were unanimously impressed by the sound quality of the CM-1, particularly considering its size.

These little speakers are just as good for listening to music as they are for watching movies. They offer high-fidelity sound quality. They work best when mounted on stands, but you can also mount them on the wall. And the design is exceptional. You can see by now that this audio system is truly a little gem. Offering high-performance and pleasing aesthetics, you won’t regret your investment (starting from $10,000), and your guests won’t either!
