Directly from Brooklyn, Grado is offering us what may be the best pair of headphones they have made yet. The PS1000 are not only the most expensive, but also the most advanced. The company, which specialized in parts for turntables in the 1950s, is considered to be one of the oldest American companies offering hi-fi audio solutions for consumers.

Mainly recognized in the audio world today for their high-performance headphones, Grado is following the trends with the PS1000. The earpieces are made of metal and wood. The wood enhances the sound resonance while the interchangeable and comfortable pads envelop the ear without isolating it. Their design also allows background noise to be heard. Since they are designed for home use, this is an advantage more than an inconvenience.

Listening to them, all of the frequencies are impressive. The quality of the basses, the middles and the highs, really surpass the output of other headphones offered by Grado. Obviously, to really appreciate the prestige of the Grado’s, the audio source must be similar (stereo receiver, high-end CD player, Blu-Ray, etc.). Although the PS1000 were also tested with compressed music files via an iPod, the sound quality was greater than expected.

According to evaluations by the CNET.com team, these seem to be the best headphones offered by Grado. Sound, comfort, look and cost, the PS1000 is first in the line-up. At $1,700 a pair, they should be first. At this price, the set includes a 3.5 mm adapter and a 5 metre extension cord.
